The Raku Tatami Platform Bed is the embodiment of Japanese simplicity and harmony in design. Pair with and a for a clean and authentic sleep experience.

Raku Tatami Platform beds are an Eco-Friendly product constructed in a manner that is less harmful to the environment than many other furniture products on the market today. To begin with, the Raku bed is made from solid Parawood, also known as Rubberwood, and does not contain any particle board or MDF. In addition, Parawood is a sustainably produced wood, sourced from plantations when the Rubberwood has reached the end of its productive sap-producing life.

To prevent cracking and warping of the wood, the Raku is constructed with solid blocks of Parawood finger joints and finished with an inert lacquer finish. The finger joints can add a unique look to the lighter natural and honey oak finishes but blend into a more uniform look on the dark walnut finish.

The Raku bed frame uses minimal hardware for assembly, the corners are joined together by means of an ingenious slot-locking system that is simple, sturdy, and easy to put together and take down. The center support rail(s) utilize steel bolts to fasten the middle legs and to the rails of the bed frame creating a strong and extra sturdy foundation for the solid wood slats, upon which you can place a mattress or Tatami mats.

The eco-friendly properties of the Raku can be further bolstered by the use of Tatami mats as a replacement for a box spring (mats sold separately). Western-style mattresses, typically 7"-18" thick, can be placed directly on the slat deck of the Raku bed. The thinner more malleable Eastern-style Shiki mats and futons will need a more solid surface as they will sink down between the slats, are the preferred method to create this surface and the Raku Tatami mats fit perfectly to create a level surface with the frame of the bed.
